Three months ago, Camryn Lauffer, founder of the Stray Cat Network, saw a social media post about a wobbly kitten in need of a forever home.
Knowing she had the expertise and the heart to help, Camryn decided to take action. “She wanted what was best for the kitten, but her life couldn’t accommodate his needs. He wasn’t thriving, so she surrendered him to us,” Camryn said.
From Struggles to Cuddles
When she went to pick up the kitten, named Flipflop, Camryn was greeted by a chatty little furball. “He cries for attention until I hold him, then tucks his head against my chest and falls right asleep.
He’s very friendly and purrs as soon as I pet him,” she revealed. Flipflop had cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition affecting his coordination, but Camryn knew that with the right care, he would be fine.
A Swift Recovery and Learning the Ropes
After establishing a feeding regimen, Flipflop’s health started to make a quick turnaround. His muscle tone improved, and he was even dining unassisted—though a bit messily.
“I knew that he would likely be just fine with a little TLC and some high-calorie food,” she noted.
However, Flipflop didn’t know how to play well with others due to his early separation from his family. “When I got him, his manners were horrendous.
He was a biter,” Camryn admitted. After introducing him to her resident feline clan, Flipflop started to learn the ropes and fine-tune his social skills.
The Birth of an Assistant
Flipflop, or Flip for short, developed an unquenchable thirst for affection. Whether it was Camryn on the couch or her father working at his computer, Flip was there, imploringly looking up with his big eyes, eager for a cuddle.
He even took an active interest in jigsaw puzzles, sitting attentively as if contemplating the best next move.
“After every meal, he will flop his way to my father to nap on his chest,” Camryn shared, highlighting how Flipflop had quickly become everyone’s little “assistant.”
