Types of chihuahuas

  • The apple head chihuahua: It is the most common, its head has, as its name indicates, a shape similar to that of an apple that gives it a sweet and careful appearance. It has two large and separated ears, almost always in a straight position. In contrast to a large head and bulging eyes, its body is small and slim. At the end of its body, we find a small tail that turns on the back.
  • The deer head chihuahua: It is somewhat larger than the previous chihuahua. The shape of the head is more elongated and in some cases resembles that of a small deer. They are somewhat taller and more stylized, although they also show a delicate and sweet appearance that will make us fall in love.

What is a Brown Chihuahua?

Chihuahuas come in a variety of colors and according to the American Kennel Club, the Chihuahua can come in at least 29 color combinations.

Dogs with brown color are rarely accepted as a standard breed color because it comes from a dilute gene that washes out the black pigmentation.

Luckily for Brown Chihuahua lovers, the brown color is accepted even if it doesn’t appear particularly popular amongst breeders.

Brown Chihuahuas are characterized by having a  dark chocolate coat, although some splashes of white or another color are also acceptable.

The nose is usually of brown or beige color because of the dilute gene responsible for the brown color in Chihuahuas.

Brown Chihuahuas Physical Appearance

Contrary to what breeders say, Brown or chocolate is not a solid color. It is a diluted color. The term “diluted” is banished from the mouths of breeders because they know the risks of a badly thought out marriage on color, and skin problems on Chihuahuas.

Alopecia is therefore a phenomenon encountered on diluted coats.

Although alopecia is counterbalanced on breeders who produce blue without any skin problems, chocolate Chihuahua breeders might not tell you that the brown Chihuahua is the dilution of the fawn Chihuahua. Like blue chihuahuas.

Brown Chihuahua and its variants

Brown and tan, brown and white, pure brown (without white and without a tan, which is very rare).

Dark brown is very dark chocolate brown. Tan is the fire color (tawny/orange) this is a rare color.  What’s even rarer is the chocolate brindle Chihuahua.

Diluted chocolate is a fairly specific color, it remains bland. Kind of like pure white. The nose is a little dull, pink chocolate in color, the eyes are often very clear, and everything is clear.

Brown Chihuahua Markings

In addition to chihuahua colors, they are also different in their patches and markings. The most common marking is the “mask” which is when the dog has a dark line running from their forehead down to their nose.

This is especially common in black and brown chihuahuas. Other markings include spots, streaks, and brindling (a mottled or flecked pattern). Some chihuahuas also have white markings on their chests and paws.
