Corgidor dogs are a cross between a corgi and a Labrador retriever. Its representatives took the best characteristics from their parents. Nice appearance, kind disposition, unpretentious content, and good security qualities – this is not a complete list of their advantages.
We will learn how to properly care for the representatives of this interesting breed.
The Corgidor – A Designer Dog Breed
According to the generally accepted version, the crossing of a Labrador and a Corgi was carried out to obtain a shepherd breed. But the “scope” of these cute dogs turned out to be much wider since they turned out to be good guards, nannies, and companions for lonely people.
The Corgidor was not recognized as an official breed by the American Kennel Federation but was listed on the American Dog Register.
What the half-breed took from the parents
Since the corgidor is a mixture of corgi and labradors, which differ significantly in size, their height and weight can also vary greatly. In appearance, the representatives of the breed more resemble a Labrador on low legs with a deep wide chest and an average head size. However, upon a close acquaintance, the traits of both parents are easily recognized.
From The Corgi Side

The Corgidor took the following character traits from the corgi:
- loyalty to the owners;
- love for children;
- loyalty to other pets.
External characteristics that corgidors inherited from corgi:

From labrador Side

Corgidors have the following characteristics of a Labrador Retriever:
- complaisance;
- love for outdoor games and walks;
- excellent hunting qualities;
- devotion to man.
Corgidors, like Labradors, act as good guides and companions for people with disabilities.
Characteristics and Appearance of the Corgidor
The weight of a corgi and a Labrador retriever mix varies from 40 to 56 pounds, and the height can be from 11 to 19 inches.
Corgidors are stocky dogs with wide chests, short legs, and a head shape that looks more like a Labrador with small ears.
The following colors of the mix are found:
- sand;
- red;
- shades of brown of varying intensity;
- red-brown;
- black.
In any basic color, there are white spots on the chest and belly of the Corgi / Labrador mix.
Character and temperament
Corgidors are very attached to their owners. At the same time, they do not like strangers and announce the arrival of guests with loud barks.
Representatives of the mixture of corgi and labradors are quite energetic and mobile. However, there is no aggressiveness and anger in their character.
Corgidors do not require specific care. To keep the house clean, it will be enough to comb your pet’s fur once a week. During the seasonal molting period (2 times a year), this procedure should be carried out daily.
To prevent plaque from accumulating on the teeth, which quickly turns into tartar, dogs should be given special biscuits and hard bones (not tubular).
You should also cut off the regrown claws in time and wipe the inner surface of the auricles.
Important! Nail clipping should be done by a veterinarian or professional groomer. Inexperience, the owner can touch the blood vessels and provoke profuse bleeding. You should be especially careful with dogs with black nails.
A mixture of corgi and labrador can live both in city apartments and in country houses. They can easily withstand low temperatures, thanks to their thick undercoat.
Feeding and Nutrition

For feeding corgidors, you can choose from commercial prepared rations or organic foods.
Important! The Corgi and Labrador Retrievers mix are prone to overeating and gaining excess weight. Therefore, it is forbidden to exceed the daily feeding rate.
To maintain muscle mass and maintain energy, corgidors need to consume about 80 g of protein per 20 pound of body weight. In addition to dietary meats, their diet should include:
- cereals (buckwheat, barley, and rice);
- vegetables (except for starchy vegetables and cabbage);
- boneless sea fish;
- yeast-free sourdough bread;
- eggs;
- dairy products.
Important! Feeding corgidors with smoked, salted and fried foods leads to disruptions in the functioning of internal organs and the formation of cancerous growth
Health and longevity
The average lifespan of a corgi and labrador retriever mix dog is 10 to 13 years. Diseases that are characteristic of this particular breed have not been identified. The health of each individual depends on care, feeding, and the availability of sufficient physical activity.
Important! Before purchasing a puppy from a breeder, you should find out what pathologies the parents or puppies from previous litters suffered from. Perhaps there were genetic diseases in the family that are inherited.
Physical activity and training

Corgidors require daily long walks on a leash and in free-range conditions. They also need active, fun games with a person or other dogs.
Training a mixture of Corgi and Labrador does not cause great difficulties, since these dogs are quite quick-witted and quickly understand what the owner requires of them.
How corgidors get along with children and other animals
Corgidors are very friendly with young children and often become wonderful nannies. But parents must make it clear to their kids that dogs should not be abruptly grabbed, hit, pinched, and pulled by the ears or tail, as even the kindest dog can respond with aggression to pain or fear.
The corgi and Labrador mix get along well under one roof with other pets. But if the owners decide to have an animal when there is already an adult corgidor in the house, then you should do it carefully, and do not leave the pets alone for the first time.
