Can Dogs Eat French Toast or Other Breads? | Harmful Foods That Will Kill Your Adorable Dog!

Bread is undoubtedly the most present food in our diet, after all, there are a lot of items in our own diet that serve as treats for our pooch. But is bread a safe food for dogs or is it on the contrary not recommended?

Bread for your dog: a good idea?

Bread is mainly made up of carbohydrates. It’s therefore not particularly recommended in the dog’s diet, because ingested in too large a quantity and regularly, it leads to overweight or even diabetes in dogs, because of too much sugar intake. From a nutritional point of view, then, bread is not as healthy a treat as zucchini. Bread is also quite concentrated in salt, which can be harmful to health.

Furthermore, not all breads are created equal. Whether white or whole wheat or multi-grain, bread does not represent a danger to your dog’s health – provided that its intake remains reasonable.

On the other hand, other kinds of bread, because of the ingredients of which they are composed, are very dangerous and can be fatal.

The potential dangers of bread for dogs

Although the dog gladly asks for a portion of our meals, it is sometimes necessary to refuse him because of the toxicity of certain foods. These foods are found in special breads.

Here is a list of toxic ingredients for your pooch:

  • grapes
  • Chocolate
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Certain nuts such as almonds

The biggest danger in bread, however, is bread dough, as uncooked starch is not digestible.

You can sometimes bake your own bread: except that in a moment of inattention, your dog swallows a piece of dough. This is very dangerous because on the one hand the paste is difficult to chew, and it can suffocate your dog if It has tried to swallow too much.

On the other hand, because once in the stomach, the yeasts will make the dough swell – and the stomach with it. Ethanol is produced, which causes potentially fatal alcohol poisoning.

If you identify the following symptoms, it’s likely that your dog has ingested the dough, in which case you need to see a veterinarian urgently:

  • Your dog’s tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Staggering gait (as if It’s been drinking alcohol)
  • Vomiting
  • Convulsions

How to give bread to your dog?

If you still want to give your dog some bread, make sure it’s cooked – if it’s homemade check that the ingredients used are neither toxic nor allergic factors for your pooch.

Give your dog only a few pieces of bread, and take into account the amount given in Its food rations so that It has a diet as balanced as possible.

Finally, prefer dry bread to soft bread: it will be easier to swallow, and will help your dog’s dental hygiene!
